Burnout Paradise Albany Theatre reviews
Highest energy Skynyrd, Frampton also good
The show started late after a rain and lightning delay, but it was a good value, marking the first big concert of the Jones Beach summer season. Sets may have been shortened as a result. Frampton played very well with a band he obviously enjoys, and they were tight on stage. His guitar playing and vocals were on point. His interplay with the audience was good, considering the size of the venue and the fact he was an opener, and many may not have known his songs too well. Also, it is an outdoor venue and night hadn't yet fallen. Always seems that this combo yields a less enthusiastic crowd. He plays the hits and three covers, with Bowie's Rebel Rebel being my favorite.
Skynyrd took the stage and played the most high-energy set I've seen them do in a few years, maybe because the rain shortened their stage time. They ripped through their set, starting with MCA. Johnnys voice was good, Gary seemed to have more pep, and Rickey was great as always. Also, Michael on drums was up and out of his chair on some occasions. Peter Keys is an excellent piano player. Maybe because the size of the venue psyched them up, they really sounded at the top of their game.
